That’s So Meta

While I was teaching my writing class tonight, we compared paragraphs to stories within stories. The paragraph is the mini story within the larger story of the narrative. Each mini story, complete and beautiful in it’s own right, builds the larger narrative. You will never achieve the whole without crafting the mini stories – the stories within the story.

The idea of stories within stories made me think of Margaret Atwood’s Blind Assassin, of course, but it also made me think of the evolution of my daily creative projects. Not only is each iteration of a project a story within a story, it is also a story within the narrative of the journey, not just the finished product.

In that spirit, I made art of my paper towel dot journey.

And that’s my bit of creativity for today.

  1. I love this post. I never really considered that a well-constructed paragraph is a mini-story that, in turn, adds to the overall story. Miss you! I hope you and the family are all well and staying safe during these unusual times.
