  1. Never say failure, it was a necessary invention! Would you please share the finished size, elastic length and what age child is this for? I have several grands to sew for. Thanks.

    • Thank you! I find I’m constantly making necessary inventions. 🙂

I began with 1 piece of 6″ x 8″ cotton and 2 pieces of 3.5″ x 8″ cotton. I overlapped the 2 pieces on the single piece, matching the edges and the right sides in. When sewn, this created an opening for a filter. (I used a coffee filter cut in half for the filter.) I used 2 6″ lengths of 1/2″ wide elastic.

The finished size is approximately 5.5″ x 7.5″ (before I sewed down the pleats). With the pleats sewn down, it’s approximately 2.5″ x 7.5″

Not all of my pieces were exactly 6″ x 8″ when I began, so not all of the masks turned out the same size. I found those measurements online with direction on how to construct children’s masks. I don’t remember the site I looked at.

I discovered that 6″ x 8″ is too big for a small child, so if you go a little smaller, it will probably still work (depending on the size of your grandbabies).

      I hope this helps!
