The other day I was singing LL Cool J’s “I’m Bad” when it hit me.
I should have done a lesson on that song while I was teaching hubris in the Odyssey. It would have dovetailed so nicely with Homer’s depiction of Odysseus and the gods who condescended to interact with mere mortals. I believe LL demonstrates more hubris in 4:50 than the pantheon of characters does in the entire epic, but then again, LL is the pinnacle. I mean, he reigns supreme. And he’s notorious; he’ll crush you like a jelly bean. He’s bad.
