I know I keep talking about Shakespeare, but since we’re still reading Romeo and Juliet, I find it difficult to stop myself.
This conversation happened today in class as we read Act IV, scene iii.
Student 1 (raising his hand): Hold up. Did she just say that she would play with dead people’s joints and then take a bone from a dead body and smash in her head until her brain oozes out?
Me: Yes. That’s exactly what she said.
Student 1: What is wrong with her?
Student 2: She’s threatened to kill herself like 5 times just in what we’ve read today.
Student 3: She’s got problems. Serious problems.
Anyone else curious about the number of suicide threats in Romeo and Juliet? Oh? It’s just me?
