Scars
So many scars
Ones I can see
Ones I can’t
Ones I’ll never even know
exist
Her torso a beautiful
patchwork of
survival stories
I caused the first one
vertically bisecting her
abdomen
in my rush to come out
We both survived
That scar
our mutual
lifeline
Connective tissue
between
two bodies
still binds us
But now I
watch the
scars
from the outside
Tracking each
procedure
As we
both build
scars
the other will
never see
Surviving together
with each
new
story
