Dear Hosiery with Toe Seams,

Why do you exist?  I know this sounds rude, but I don’t mean my question to sound as gauche as it does.  I sincerely don’t understand the purpose behind toe seams in pantyhose, tights, or socks.  I’m willing to believe there is a good reason for them, so I’m just trying to get more information.
