Top Shelf

After dinner, The Girl wanted something else to eat, like she often does.  I think she feels like her dining experience isn’t complete if she doesn’t top off the meal with one more thing.  Usually she asks for a banana or  1-3 Cheese-Its.

TG: May I have something else to eat, please?
The Husband: You can have an orange.  You may not have any Cheese-Its.
TG: May I have another banana?
TH: You can have an orange.
TG: Is there something else I can have?
TH: You can have an orange.
TG: OK.  Thank you.
TH: Wait.  We have some pineapples left in the refrigerator.  They’re in a clear container with a blue lid.  You can have those.
TG: Thanks!

*Sounds of refrigerator opening and closing several times*

TG: Where are the pineapples?
TH: In the refrigerator.
TG: Where?
TH: In the refrigerator.
TG: Where in the refrigerator?
TH: In the refrigerator.  Things get moved around in there.  Look.
TG: Where in the refrigerator.
TH: In the refrigerator on the top shelf.
TG: Where?

Exasperated, TH left the dining room table and headed to the kitchen.

TG: Oh!  You meant THAT top shelf.
